Basic Synopsis and Treatment

This is my synopsis and treatment for my brief.

Synopsis
Its going to be set at night with a camera following a dark cloaked figure through the smoky misty streets of Victorian London. Then the figure will run down an alleyway and a woman’s scream will be heard. There will be a narration over the top of the footage which will follow the lines of this:

‘Nearly 150 years ago an unknown killer began a unforgettable reign of terror . He stalked his prey on the backstreets of london’s east end. He was cunning and merciless and with each attack his lust for blood grew stronger. Then no sooner had he stamped his name deep into criminal history. He was gone and left only his shadow to terrify generations to come. Leaving the Question Who is Jack The Ripper?!’

Treatment
Fading in from black a white title in a white box appears which says London 1888 This then fades back to black. The opening shot then fades in from black showing a wall distorted by fog, mist and smoke a cloaked man in a top hat walks past the camera going from left to right. The next shot the cloaked man is walking on a cobble road and the camera is following him focusing on his shoes until he walks of screen. Then the cloaked figure passes through an archway this is in two shots one a medium close up from behind the next a long shot from behind the man then vanishes into the fog. He is then seen again walking past the camera this time it’s a close up of his feet he leaves right of the screen. Then the camera is following the silhouette from behind this time of his shoulders. The shot then cuts to him walking through a bridge coming from behind the camera then disappears into the smog. The final shot is of him waiting on a corner of an alley way he waits for a woman to walk down there then follows her the shot then cuts to black and a woman’s scream is heard.  While the words Jack The Ripper in red drip onto the screen.

VFX Mock Up

This is a quick before and after mock up plate of how I would like my composite to look the building on the left I will create in maya and the background is going to be a matte painting/photo.

Jack The Ripper

I have been looking at some Jack The Ripper pictures and videos. I like my video to be similar to this style. I like the way the shots are lit with The Ripper being a silhouette I also like the mist and fog which I could use in my project to not only add to the creepiness but would also help mask some VFX work.

Location Decision

This is the building I have chosen for my project I would like to extend down this alley way with a 3D model similar to the one in the picture I would also like a Jack The Ripper type character to be lurking around the corner and down the alway.

Sweeney Todd VFX Breakdown

Heres VFX breakdown of Tim Burtons Sweeney Todd (2007)

This video has given me a some ideas of what can be done with set extensions it also ties in nicely with the theme of my project too!

Production Schedule

I want to try and stick to this schedule as much as possible!

Project Brief

The Project I have Chosen:

Is to design model, Matchmove and integrate a set extension in a realistic and seamless way. the set extension should be a realistic design and should cover Victorian-esque horror setting/theme. The set extension could be an addition to a building, a reconstruction, additions to a skyline, changes to an existing building or perhaps a complete re-projection of an area. The shot length is to be 25 seconds long with a 5 second effect shot.
